Friends & Volunteers
CHILDREN'S TLC FRIENDS ASSOCIATION

The Friends Association is an active, supportive organization for Children's TLC. It was founded in 1969 to provide classroom volunteers. With over 125 members, this group has expanded its mission and now also conducts fundraising events (see Pumpkin Patch and Duck Derby) to help sustain the operating budget of the Center, markets the Center, and assists in other agency activities. They also host an annual Adopt-A-Family program, providing gifts, clothes and household items to some of families. The Friends Association membership drive is held each spring and they now offer three levels of membership:
o Fabulous Friend level of $125
o Best Friend level of $75
o Friend level of $50
All contributions are tax-deductible and benefit Children's TLC. Anyone interested in membership should call the office at 816-756-0780 or contact us by email at staff@ChildrensTLC.org.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Children's TLC uses community volunteers to help in any of the five classrooms. The children at the Center have circle time, gym time, out door time and snack/lunch time. Volunteers also go on planned field trips with the children (for example, apple picking, pumpkin patch, American Royal, Crown Center, Puppet shows, etc.). Volunteers assist the teachers, teacher assistants, and therapists with activities that promote learning and development. These activities may be in the therapeutic pool or in the learning centers that include:
-computer center
-manipulative center (blocks, puzzles, etc.)
-art center
-library center for reading/quiet time
-dramatic play center (kitchen/dollhouse)
This is a great "hands on" opportunity to work with young children with special needs. Volunteers will be working with a dynamic team of professional teachers and therapists in a wonderful facility.
When: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Morning session: 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Afternoon session: noon-3:00 p.m.
During the summer session, teenagers (14 years and over) can participate as volunteers in the classrooms. Area high schools may schedule students to volunteer at the Center as part of their Community Service requirements.
For information about the volunteer opportunities at Children's TLC, send an e-mail to staff@ChildrensTLC.org or call 816-756-0780 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator.
